Dry Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ⅓ cup brown sugar packed
Wet Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana mashed (about ½ cup)
- 1 large egg
- 4 ounces yogurt
- ½ cup milk
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
- ⅓ cup mini chocolate chips optional, plus more for serving
For Serving
- Whipped cream
- Extra mini chocolate chips
Whisk together the dry ingredients in a bowl.
Mash the banana and whisk in the brown sugar, egg, milk, and melted butter.
Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients just until combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips, just until the last of the dry ingredients disappears. Allow batter to rest for 15 minutes while you preheat the waffle iron.
Grease your waffle iron if recommended by manufacturer.
Portion ⅓ cup of batter (or how much your iron holds) into the waffle iron and cook until golden and crisp, about 5 minutes, or according to your machine’s instructions.
Serve warm with maple syrup or with whipped cream and extra chocolate chips.
- If the batter is too thick for your liking, add milk one tablespoon at a time.
- Cool completely before freezing.
- Reheat in a toaster or toaster oven for best texture.
