flour baking powder baking soda sugar salt butter buttermilk

Start by whisking together all of your dry ingredients and adding cold, cubed butter

I prefer to use a "snapping fingers" motion to rub the butter and the flour together

When you're done, the butter should be a mixture of tiny pea-sizes along with flat pieces

Add cold buttermilk and mix until you get a shaggy dough

Dump it onto a floured counter and gather into a square-ish shape

Use a knife or bench scraper to cut into 4 pieces

Stack them on top of eachother, press back down, and repeat this 2 more times

At the end of three  "cut and stacks" you can see all the flaky layers you created

Roll out the dough and cut into 3 to 4 inch rounds

Give them 10 minutes in the freezer while you preheat your oven to 450°F

Brush with an egg wash and bake
