The crumb topping is easy to make by combining brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and cake flour with melted butter.

All-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt are combined in a large bowl

Egg, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla are then whisked together

The cake batter comes together in seconds as you mix the wet and dry ingredients together - no tedious creaming  of butter!

Spread the thick batter in the bottom of a square baking pan.
