Dough can be  made ahead


butter sugar eggs vanilla all-purpose flour baking powder baking soda salt nutmeg buttermilk powdered sugar heavy cream

Start by mixing up your eggs, vanilla, sugar, nutmeg, and melted butter until foamy

Mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt and add to your wet ingredients

Then mix in your buttermilk. If you don't have buttermilk,  use yogurt!

Let the dough rest in the fridge for at least an hour, up to 24 hours

Place the dough on a heavily floured counter, dust the top with more flour, and roll out to 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick

Cut out your donuts (and holes!) and place on floured surface

Carefully lower donuts into hot oil and fry for 90 seconds per side

Remove from oil and set to drain on a wire rack set in a large sheet pan

Give warm donuts a vanilla glaze bath

And place back on rack for 10 minutes to set

Your delicious Old Fashioned Buttermilk Donuts are done!
