I love having salad option at brunch and making your own salad dressing is fast and easy, and it never fails to impress. Unfortunately, once you start making your own Buttermilk Ranch Dressing, you'll find it very difficult to spend money on store bought versions. Oh well.
This Buttermilk Ranch Dressing recipe can be modified using low fat versions of any of the dairy components, but for consistency and flavor, I'd recommend using at least one of them at Full Fat/Full Throttle. It's a salad - aren't you already "behaving" yourself? (to be clear I'm rarely behaving myself and I'm not talking about food)
Ingredients & Substitutions
Below is a picture of the ingredients I used to make this delicious ranch dressing. As always, I recommend proper mise en place, or getting all your ingredients together before you start. Let's go over the major ingredients to see where you can make substitutions or changes if needed:

- Greek yogurt - The main creamy component for this dressing is Greek yogurt. You can use regular yogurt as well. If you want your dressing to be more pourable, I would recommend using regular yogurt and then thinning the dressing out with a little bit of milk to your desired consistency.
- Buttermilk - Buttermilk is really the flavor base of a traditional ranch dressing, giving just that certain taste quality that you can't define but you know when it's missing. If you don't have buttermilk, you can substitute with more mayonnaise or Greek yogurt, being sure to thin the dressing out with a little bit of milk to your desired consistency.
- Mayonnaise - There's just gotta be a little bit of mayonnaise you know? If that's just not your thing (I know some people are really mayonnaise-haters) then you can dabble with adding a little more yogurt or buttermilk.
- Fresh herbs - Fresh herbs really take ranch dressing to another level. In a pinch, any one of them can be substituted with dry herbs, just use 1 tablespoon instead of 3 and allow time for the herbs to rehydrate before serving.
- Seasonings - Salt and pepper are just the start. I believe that a ranch dressing won't taste like ranch dressing unless you add garlic powder and onion powder. Fight me. My hot take: If you leave them out, you're essentially putting yogurt on your salad.

Serving Suggestion

My toxic trait: I love fast food chicken tenders. How do I make them better? I put them on a salad with lots of greens, sweet carrots, broccoli florets, toasted sunflower seeds, and lots of ranch dressing. Protein, vegetables, and joy. Done.

📖 Recipe

Buttermilk Ranch Dressing
Ingredients
- 1 cup greek yogurt
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon Salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoon finely chopped parsley
- 3 tablespoon finely chopped dill
- 3 tablespoon finely chopped chives
Instructions
- Place all the ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk to combine. That's all there is to it. Pour into a resealable container, such as a large mason jar, and refrigerate.
- Pour over your favorite salad, drizzle over pizza (I hear people do that 🤷🏻♀️), or use as a dip for crudités (that's French fancy for cut veggies). The dressing will last up to one week in the refrigerator.
