Ingredients & Substitutions
My everything seasoning recipe is included in the recipe card at the bottom of the page, but you can buy jarred Everything Bagel Seasoning at your local Hipster Joe's or mega market. That's fine. But there's something quite satisfying about making it yourself, especially if you'll be using it a lot. And you will!
A note about my Everything Bagel Seasoning: my recipe makes quite a bit, but I haven't found that to be a problem since I use it all the time. Mix it up, put it in a mason jar, and keep it close at hand!

With so few ingredients, it's difficult to make substitutions, but here are some ways to make seasoned candied bacon that my readers have tried and loved!
- Lower sodium - If you are trying to decrease your sodium intake, you can use lower salt bacon and salt free everything bagel seasoning.See recipe card for quantities.
- Sugar Free Maple syrup - This recipe went semi-viral a couple of years ago when a Keto Diet blogger made my seasoned bacon using a sugar free maple syrup. I haven't tried it, but apparently it makes a great keto friendly candied bacon!
- Brown sugar - Instead of brushing maple syrup on your bacon, you can sprinkle with light or dark brown sugar.
- Turkey bacon - One of my readers swears by their turkey bacon version of this flavored bacon, so you can give that a whirl!
Variations
After trying this recipe, you might ask yourself "How else can I season bacon?" Finding the right combo to complement and still let the bacon flavor shine through is key. Try these ideas:
- Spicy - My Spicy Candied Millionaire's Bacon has the perfect blend of spicy and sweet, with both maple syrup and brown sugar, along with warm spices.
- Cajun - Using brown sugar and cajun seasoning makes for an incredible flavor blast!
- Get nutty - My maple pecan candied bacon has texture galore and so much flavor!
- Kid friendly - Not every kid, or adult, loves everything seasoning. Go figure! In place of your bagel seasoning, try sprinkling your bacon with raw white sesame seeds. As they continue baking, the seeds will toast and get crunchy, adding a delightful flavor and texture to your bacon!
Oven temperature
Remember, making bacon in the oven is highly dependent on two things: the temperature of your oven and the amount of time you are baking. Not every oven's temperature sensor is accurate. My last oven was off by 75 degrees!!
If you are unsure of your oven's temperature, use an oven thermometer to check its accuracy, and consult your oven owner's manual to adjust the temperature if needed. If you don't have a thermometer to check, keep a close eye on the time you have your bacon in the oven. A higher or lower temp will change the amount of time your candied bacon needs.
Back to basics: If you've never made Bacon in the Oven, this post will get you started the right way!
Instructions
This is the easiest recipe ever for seasoned bacon and I've given step by step photos for you to follow along for success. From preparing the bacon for cooking, brushing on the maple syrup, to how to season the bacon, it's all here:

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F. brush one side of a strip of bacon liberally with maple syrup.

Step 2: Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning.

Step 3: Place all the strips of bacon on a parchment paper lined sheet pan that has also been lined with aluminum foil, unless you feel like cleaning up a greasy mess. Not me.

Step 4: Bake at 375°F for between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the thickness of your bacon. Check it at 10 minutes and then every five minutes after that. Transfer to another sheet pan lined with parchment paper to cool.

Finish: Let cool and the bacon will become crispier as it sits. It's not going to be stiff as a pretzel rod, but lightly crisp with an addictive sweet and salty addictive flavor.
Serving Suggestions
Everything Seasoning Candied Bacon is especially delicious when it accompanies a sweet breakfast such as overnight yeast waffles, light and fluffy pancakes, or my personal favorite - cinnamon french toast! You can even crumble it up and serve it over a plate of Southern cheddar grits!

Expert tip
One ingredient that every chef knows and respects is time. When you cook some foods, they need time to reach the perfect flavor, texture, or doneness. This Everything Seasoning Candied Bacon is one of those foods.
I urge you not to skip the step of placing your finished seasoned bacon on a piece of parchment paper or aluminum foil that has been sprayed with nonstick spray. This will allow the candied portion of our flavored bacon to set, giving you that bit of crispiness you crave.
You might think that placing it on awire rack will do the same thing, but not so much. As the maple syrup hardens, it will stick to the rack, even if you've sprayed it with nonstick spray. Trust the process. I wouldn't steer you wrong!

Recipe FAQ's
Don't laugh, this is based on an actual comment I received where someone baked their bacon at 500°F and complained that it was burnt and demanded I send them money for their burnt bacon. I understand the impatience to get delicious bacon in your belly, but most recipes are meant to be followed to the very last letter. Bacon improvisation is highly frowned upon.
In the unlikely event that you have leftover bacon(something I've never experienced) you can store your strips in a single layer in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Do not stack the bacon or you might have a hard time separating them.
The best way to reheat leftover bacon is to place it on a sheet pan theat is lined with a piece of parchment paper that has been sprayed with nonstick spray. Place in a 350°F oven for about 5 minutes, or just until no longer cold. Reheating for too long runs the risk of burning the sugars in the maple syrup.
